reading
each of the short essays on this page records my impressions of a book shortly after having finished it. i will hold myself to several guiding principles:
- no spoilers
- no quotations
- 100 words max
- if i have nothing good to say, i won't say anything at all
the first of these essays (on The Invisible Landscape) will stretch that final principle, only because i cite the book in my longer-form essay "breaking through the ceiling" and feel responsible to give some account. in general my having written about a book at all implies that i feel it was worth my time to read.

buying books
if you're going to buy a book, please consider going to an independent bookstore rather than bezos-land or something. shopping independent is easier than ever. it may be more expensive, but the "savings" you get at Amazon is very far from cost-free.
